Axel Perugino

About

Who I am

Axel Perugino is an Italian/Finnish concept artist trained as a painter in a traditional Neapolitan workshop.

He was born in 1991 in Naples, Italy, proud son of Terhi, a Finnish pro ice skating dancer well versed also in drawing, and Leone, an Italian artist, photographer and Argentine tango teacher.

From the very beginning he is introduced to all kind of art activities and music.

Axel loved “Jurassic Park”, cartoons, drawing and colouring castles and beasts.

His mother transmitted him love for Tolkien, Fantasy and nature, a spark that would change entirely his course.

While studying at school he is trained in Martial Arts as well as Argentine Tango.

While finishing his Bachelor Degree in Japanese and English Language and Literature, Axel, advised by his father, started to paint after meeting with a notorious Neapolitan artist, Francesca Strino.

In Strino’s atelier he has remained for years, learning the old masters’ works, chiaroscuro and the delicacy of classical methods. He introduced some new students as well to oil painting, helping his master.

At home Axel was under the guidance of his uncle Vincenzo Moccia, a local copyist and artist, very knowledgeable in XV to XIX painting styles and techniques.

He enjoys playing D&D and Magic The Gathering, listening mainly to rock and metal music, an established source of inspiration.

Using both traditional and digital expertise, Axel is searching for a mystical and more intimate, darker vision of his subjects and his world-building.

An eerie palette, transforming and decaying matter.

Axel now is working as a freelance artist, taking full advantage of his expertise in fantasy and rock/metal scenery.
